Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno has urged the national government to waive loans which local farmers owe the Agricultural Development Cooperation.

Chemno said farmers have been facing a myriad of challenges including climate change and pest infestation for the last three years hence need for the loans waiver.

He said the waiver if effected will help boost the farmers' morale and enable them produce in plenty alongside ensuring food security in the county.

The Deputy Governor affirmed the county's commitment to working with the State in ensuring that challenges faced by the farmers are resolved.

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri on his part, warned public servants involved in illegal sell of subsidized fertilizers that their days are numbered.

"We are going to register all farmers to ease  service delivery to them," Kiunjuri said.

The duo spoke during the closure of Eldoret Agricultural National Show on Saturday.

Kiunjuri said the government will next week release Sh1billion to settle payments of the farmers who have delivered their farm produce at the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB).

"We have already used Sh7.4 billion to pay farmers for the produce delivered," he said.
