Nyamira County residents have been urged to cut down trees near water sources to prevent water sources from running dry.
County commissioner Isaiah Nakoru said the residents should cut trees and stop planting trees near water sources.
The commissioner regretted that most water sources such as streams, rivers and springs have gone dry because the trees near the sources have consumed water.
"Nyamira has experienced water shortages because water from sources has been consumed by trees.
'Residents should be complelled to cut down the trees to ensure water from sources is used directly by residents for domestic purposes," he said.
Nakoru challenged the county government of Nyamira through the environment department to step up efforts to save water sources from drying.
