The government has warned county governments against illegal approval of structures to avert loss of lives and property.
Gatundu North sub county commissioner Daniel Nyamiti has warned that the government will not sit and watch as construction officers mandated to approve constructions of structures in towns mess up with the process.
“Some buildings approved by county construction and planning officers are illegally built owing to their location, the nature of building and non-procedural approval. There are more questions than answers why officers mandated to legally offer services to wananchi risk lives of tenants by taking bribes, that we won’t allow that to happen,” said Nyamiti.
Speaking from his office in Kamwangi on Monday, the area police boss warned that stern action will be taken against officers who allow illegal structuring of buildings to continue after taking bribes.
“Although the approval process on the construction of buildings in urban centres is a county government role, the national government will not be dumb as desperate Kenyans continue to lose lives and property because of a few corrupt individuals,” warned Nyamiti.
Nyamiti further lamented illegal extensions on old buildings in Kamwangi town citing that he would engage the county government to see their demolition on course if they were not legally approved.
He urged the county leadership to stiffen construction approval process to ensure constructors followed construction rules to the letter.
