The director of secondary and tertiary education Robert Masese said the government will only pay for fresh candidates sitting for their examinations this year.

Masese said those repeating class and will be sitting the national examinations this year should make individual arrangements to pay the examination fee.

He said the government had budgeted for fresh candidates and it will not take care of those who opted to repeat and re-do the national examination.

“It is a policy and it will be followed to the latter, repeaters should not expect any favours from the government in terms of education fee subsidies. They had squandered their chance and that is it,” he announced.

Speaking to the press in Kisumu on the side-lines of Kitui Schools Heads Association general meeting, Masese said repeaters will not benefit from any government subsidy.

He said repeaters are considered to have benefitted from those subsidies and awarding them again is double allocation which is against the education policy.

President Uhuru Kenyatta recently announced that his government will spend Sh 2.5 billion to pay examination fees for primary and secondary school candidates annually.
