Ahadi Kenya Chief Executive Officer Dr Stanley Kamau has urged the both governments to honour their pledges in serving persons living with disabilities.

Speaking on Wednesday at Gatundu Stadium during this year's International Day of Persons Living with Disabilities (PLWDs), Kamau urged the State and county governments to ensure progressive implementation of the principle that at least five per cent of members in government bodies are persons living with disabilities.

“The implementation of five per cent of government vacancies set for persons living with disabilities has not been met. The governments should do everything possible to honour this pledge to make persons living with disabilities to be part of Kenyans,” said Kamau.

He accused those embezzling funds set for persons living with disabilities and urged the governments to take tough action against them.

“The government should discipline those found embezzling funds set for persons living with disabilities and bring them to book,” said Kamau.

Kamau urged the governments to ensure persons living with disabilities are included in all spheres of national and county developments.

He also said that the both governments should honour the 30 per cent of public tenders for vulnerable groups including persons living with disabilities.

He further urged the society not to discriminate persons living with disabilities.

“Persons living with disabilities have faced discrimination and stigma from society which spell doom for them. The society should treat them with respect,” said Kamau.

During the commemoration persons living with disabilities received several gifts including shoes and other personal effects.
