Wajir governor Ahmed Abdullahi has pleaded with Kenyans to maintain peace before, during and after the August 8 polls.
Addressing supporters in Wajir Town on Tuesday, the county boss asked Kenyans to ignore politicians who are spewing hatred in their campaigns.
The Wajir county boss said that the country’s security and peace is the most important thing at this election moment.
He said that August 8 polls will come and go but the thing that matters is for the country to remain united and peaceful.
“I am appealing to Kenyans across the country to champion peace and shun politicians whose agenda is to cause tribal divisions as we head to the polls,” he said as quoted by the Daily Nation.
Governor Abdullahi also asked Kenyans and the clergy to pray for peaceful elections. He said that the country has to seek God’s intervention for peaceful polls.
At the same time, the Governor asked the police and the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to hunt down and take action against inciters.
He said that NCIC has the constitutional mandate to tame hate speakers and propagandists whose agenda is to cause violence.
The governor at the same time pleaded with residents to endorse his re-election. Abdullahi said that he has performed to deserve another five years.
The governor pledged to initiate more development projects if re-elected on August 8.
