Kisii county Governor James Ongwae has been accused of being behind the delayed bursary disbursement.
Residents said the governor should have released the money to various wards so that parents can apply for their children who have joined schools to get the money.
“I have my two sons who are studying at Nyamagwa boys and I don’t have enough money to pay the whole term fees. Ongwae has delayed releasing bursary funds because he has some powerful people surrounding him to change the figures before the money is released to wards,” said Charles Obae.
Another resident Stephen Machoni faulted the governor for making unilateral decisions on funds for the poor.
“We can’t continue waiting for the bursary anymore. Let Ongwae and his team use the money for their personal businesses as parents with children at boarding schools have embarked on selling livestock to settle fees balances,” said Machoni.
According to Machoni, Ongwae should have also released the bursary funds when he paid contractors.
