A report containing a list of Garissa county employees will be scrutinized by an audit firm in a move to weed out ghost workers, Governor Ali Korane has said.

He said he is studying the document handed over to him by the county public service board.

"We will have to subject the report to an audit to ascertain the legal workforce for the county administration", said the Jubilee governor.

He said hiring of county staff should be done legally.

After he was sworn into officer, the governor ordered the county Public Service Board to give him a list of all county staff.

He claimed that there were ghost workers in the previous government led by former governor, Nathif Jama.

Korane said the ghost workers were siphoning money from the county something that has increased the county wage bill.
