The education sector in Mandera county has received a major boost after Governor Ali Roba allocated it Sh1 billion to support education.
The county boss also set aside Sh. 500 million for putting up a human health research center.
The county government is expected to partner with the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) in setting up the facility.
Speaking when he launched the bursary fund, the governor said that over 5000 students are set to benefit from the project once it is complete.
"A total of 5,689 students will benefit. They include 1,308 in Colleges and University, some 4,154 students in secondary schools, another 121 teacher trainees at Mandera Teachers Training College and 106 students at Mandera Technical Training College," he said.
He also said that the region has experienced endless problems over years, adding that he will transform the lives during his term in office.
He further said that the county government has allocated sh.200 million towards the infrastructural sector.
"So far over Sh200million investment with an additional 100million is to support infrastructure development over next financial year," he added.
