Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago has urged the national government through the treasury to release funds to counties for them to ease their operations.
He said all functions of the county have been paralysed due to lack of funds.
"We are almost running bankrupt since we cannot pay our workers and fuel our vehicles. This is getting out of hand as counties are finding it hard to operate,” he said in Eldoret town, Thursday.
"The treasury was supposed to disburse funds to the county governments by July but up to now we haven't received even a single cent," he added.
He reiterated that workers have gone for over two months without salaries while major projects such as construction of roads has been halted due to lack of funds.
"I call upon the national government through the treasury if it truly wants devolution to flourish, it should speed up the disbursement of funds for counties to streamline their operations," noted governor Mandago.
