Former Garsen MP Danson Mungatana has assured residents of Tana River County that he will insure their livestock if he ascends to power in the forthcoming general polls in a bid to improve their livelihoods.
The aspirant has said that he will initiate a programme to insure pastoralists’ livestock against various vagaries of nature including effects of drought and famine, he said.
Mungatana, who was speaking on Saturday in Bura, said that Pastoralists have suffered for many years under the poor leadership, adding that their problems will be a thing of the past if he takes over the county.
The legislator also said that livestock contributes greatly to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
“Pastoralists contribute a great share to Kenya’s GDP and should not be left to languish in poverty,” he said, as quoted by Star.
The vocal politician also said that he will do away with grazing charges being paid by the local residents in the area after August 8.
Livestock farmers in this part of the nation have been lamenting over massive losses they have suffered in the past because of persistent drought.
Mungatana will be looking forward to unseat Governor Hussein Dado who defected from Wiper to Jubilee citing frustrations from the top leadership.
