Mohamud, who is contesting on Jubilee, is one of the candidates to watch in the race for the area’s governorship.
The invites- only funds raising drive went down at a Nairobi hotel.
Several leaders backing the re-election of president Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto attended the meeting including Aden Keynan (Eldas), Wajir East’s Abass Sheikh Mohamed, Wajir North’s Ibrahim Saney and Tarbaj’s Mohamed Elmi Fai among others.
The successful funds drive is a major boost to Mohamud as he looks forward to winning the seat. This funds drive comes after his candidature was backed by different communities including Degodia, Ajuran and Ogaden.
The aspirant has promised to give the incumbent Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi a run for his money in the August elections.
The current county boss will have to go an extra mile to defend his seat after leaders who backed him walked away on the grounds that he has not fulfilled most of the promises he made before he was elected into power.
The governor’s rivals have pointed an accusing finger at the county leadership for doing little to change their lives since the last general elections.
