Mombasa politician Suleiman Shabhal has urged Jubilee party leaders to allow free and fair party primaries, in a bid to avoid fall outs.
Speaking at a forum held in Mombasa, Shabhal, who has declared interest in the Mombasa governor's seat, said though he does not fear competition, direct nominations should not be entertained.
This comes amid speculations that Jubilee plans to give a direct nomination to Tourism CS Najib Balala, to compete against the incumbent Hassan Joho.
"I do not fear competition, whether internal or external. We will meet at the ballot," he said.
On his part, Jubilee Alliance Party (JAP) Mombasa Chairman Ali Mwatsahu, urged Mombasa residents to vote for Balala during the next general elections.
In a quick response to Mwatsahu's sentiments, the businessman cum politician, welcomed anyone to compete against him.
"In politics, those with few supporters tend to make the most noise. If Balala and any other person wants to challenge me, they are welcome. I am ready for anybody,” said Shabhal.
