Garissa County Governor Nathif Jama has said that his newly formed council of elders will help in fighting the issue of insecurity and will, in a number of ways, raise overall the security level of the county. "The elders will come in aid to the clan in managing conflicts that we have been experiencing here. I urge my opponents and also enemies to kindly recognize the council of elders since they also go ahead and supplement all the efforts being made by the national government and also the county government in maintaining peace" Jama said. Jama who was speaking in his office went on record saying that the MPs and also the local leaders who oppose the council of elders are all enemies of security. "I know there are a number of MPs in this county and also local leaders who have gone ahead and accused me of being corrupt. Each council member is being paid Ksh. 10,000 and I wonder how I am being corrupt by doing that", he said. Balambala MP Abdikadir Omar has earlier accused the Governor of being corrupt and misusing the County's funds by paying members of the council of elders . "These are some of the corrupt activities we are talking about. How do you spend the county's Ksh 500,000 in paying the members of the Council of Elders? How does this benefit the common people of Garissa County?" Abdikadir Omar inquired. Jama went ahead and said the recently formed council of elders was not a political move but a move to ensure that there is enough security in the county and also that the different clans in the county interact without any trouble.
