Nakuru county has the capacity to produce enough food to feed its residents, Governor Kinuthia Mbugua has said.
This, he stated the county boss, has been made possible by overseeing the availability of quality seeds, fertilisers, pesticides and professional technical assistance, all thanks to support from his government.
Speaking at the Naivasha market on Wednesday where his entourage made a stop over enroute for the 9th edition of the Gavana Mtaani outreach programme Naivasha sub county edition, Mbugua assured farmers and local traders of his government's support saying having adequate food at the resident's disposal was recipe for a fully functional society.
"When I see our markets booming with fresh food, I feel happy because I know my people are safe. As a government, we have invested a lot in the agricultural sector because we believe agriculture is an undisputable component of development," he said.
He further committed to upgrading the market to better standards so as to boost morale and challenge many idle youths into taking up business opportunities.
"Our women are worth recommendation here because of their commitment in business, why can't our young people follow the same example?" he posed.
The two-day programme will see the governor and his deputy lead other senior county government officials in interacting with Naivasha residents as a way of bringing services closer to the people.
