Lamu Governor Issa Timamy has asked rivals seeking to unseat him to engage in issue based campaigns.
Timamy claims that his rivals are riding on propaganda to survive politically.
The Amani National Congress (ANC) governor said that his competitors have run out of campaign ideas and are employing malicious tactics to remain relevant.
In an interview with the Daily Nation, Timamy asked his supporters not to listen to the lies allegedly being peddled by rivals.
He said that propagandists want to cause disunity among locals as the country approaches the August 8 polls.
"I am appealing to Lamu residents to ignore people whose agenda is to cause divisions along tribal lines," he said as quoted by the Star.
Timamy said that his rivals feel intimidated by his development rack record.
The governor exuded confidence of being re-elected, saying that he has performed in his gubernatorial duties.
"My development track record is proof that I have worked and delivered on what I promised Lamu residents in 2013,” he said.
Timamy is seeking re-election on ANC party ticket.
He is facing stiff competition from Fahim Twaha vying on Jubilee Party, Eluid Ndung’u vying on Party of National Unity (PNU), Abdallah Fadhil of ODM and Swaleh Salim contesting on Wiper ticket.
