The construction of a matatu terminus in Nakuru’s Milimani estate has caused an uproar from residents claiming their security will be compromised.
Residents say the terminus will jeopardise security not only in the estate but for State House which is just a short distance away.
This follows the controversial decision by Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua allowing the construction of the Mololine-Milimani Annex stage.
According to the residents, under the Milimani Residents Welfare Association, the construction of the structure will also disrupt learning at a nearby primary school.
They also fear the devaluation of the high-class estate.
Mololine Shuttle Company which is putting up the structure said the stage will be ultra-modern and customised to meet the high-end status of the up-market estate.
“This facility is very far from State House and is noise free. If anything, it is a modern facility that is targeting the Milimani residents as they are in a class of their own,” Mololine chairman Njoroge Bomasu was quoted by kenyans.co.ke.
Residents accuse the Nakuru county government of contravening environmental laws in approving numerous dwellings.
They have written to the County Secretary Joseph Mogusu Motari saying the association is opposed to any change of user from single dwelling to multi dwellings or commercial without their approval.
Through the association's secretary Wenceslaus Miheso, the residents have threatened to move to court if the projects are not stopped.
