Kenyans have been cautioned against allowing foreign countries to influence them in regards to the country’s key political issues.

Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago claimed that some of the foreign countries were only interested in Kenya because of the ongoing oil exploration.

Speaking at Tuigoin in Trans Nzoia County on Friday, Mandago advised Kenyans to always focus on solving the country's political issues locally.

He gave an example of Libya where he claimed foreign countries conspired to topple the late Libyan President Muamar Gaddafi's government and took over oil exploration sites.

"I want to ask fellow Kenyans that you ignore whatever foreign countries who don't want to see us move forward are saying about our political matters," said Mandago.

"We know there are some western countries who when they hear an African country has oil they will be more interested on governance issues because they have their eye on the oil. This is what they did with Libya," he added.
