Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua has asked motorists using the Nairobi-Nakuru highway to exercise caution during this festive season.

Speaking at St Mary’s Hospital in Gilgil town yesterday, Mbugua said that motorists must adhere to traffic regulations.

He indicated that more people cannot continue to perish in the hands of rogue drivers, adding that relevant authorities must ensure the laws are followed.

“I want to appeal to all those using the Nairobi-Nakuru highway to exercise caution to avert accidents,” he said.

The governor said that many lives have been lost along the highway and that permanent solutions should be sought to address the issue.

The county boss blamed some motorists who he said fail to observe traffic regulations that leads to accidents.

He asked the traffic department to deploy more traffic officers along the highway to deal with errant motorists.

Mbugua also asked passengers not to board vehicles that are full and those that do not have operating licence.

On the same note, Mbugua asked owners of public transport vehicles to put in place security measures and scrutinise passengers.

He said that move will address security scares especially this festive season and bearing in mind recent security threats in some parts of the country.
