The long wait for clean and affordable water to residents of Maili Kumi came to an end on Tuesday morning after Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua officially launched a county government sponsored water project in the slums.
This will be a reprieve to the residents who have for a long time decried being segregated by the county government as far as provision of clean water is concerned.
Speaking during the event, the governor called on the area administration to ensure the project is well taken care of to avert cases of vandalism or extortion.
"This is a public facility fully sponsored by the county government and it will totally unacceptable for anybody to charge residents before accessing the facility," he said.
He further expressed his commitment to ensuring all his campaign pledges were delivered saying that unlike other leaders, his open door policy was susceptible to any form of audit any time because he had nothing to hide from the public.
The project at Land Mawe is expected to serve more than 10, 000 households in the informal settlement.
