Taita Taveta County Governor Granton Samboja has decried cases of drunkness during the day in the county.
He warned that his administration will not tolerate such cases.
"We cannot have a society where our youths are drunk as early as 10 am in the morning," said Samboja.
He called on all law enforcement agencies within the county to step up their efforts to ensure that alcohol is taken within hours stipulated by law.
"The laxity portrayed is due to some chief and assistant chiefs corrupt collaboration with alcohol selling vendors that have seen our youth plunge into depths of alcohol abuse to the detriment of our society and community. This must end," he warned on Sunday.
Speaking as he addressed residents, Samboja added: "Our youth are pillars of society and community development and not an alcohol addicted degrading generation."
