West Pokot governor John Lonyangapuo has dismissed claims that he banned female employees within the county from wearing miniskirts.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday, the County chief noted that he has not issued such directions as reported by a section of the media, clarifying that he gave a directive to his staff to dress decently.

“I am told that my directive on the code of dressing for county employees has generated debate among the staff. Well, I did not talk about miniskirts I just talked about dressing appropriately. If miniskirts are not appropriate, refrain from wearing them while at work,” he stated.

He, however, pointed out that it was inappropriate for women to wear miniskirts to the office.

“You cannot come to the office wearing a miniskirt or a micro skirt for women or t-shirts for men,” he said.

“You cannot put on pajamas at work because there is the need to maintain professionalism,” he added.

The governor's directives are said to have generated mixed reactions, with female employees opposing the dress code.
