The governor says that claims by the Office of the Ombudsman are false and meant to hurt his re-election bid.

Malombe termed the claims as political witch-hunt threatening to sue the Ombudsman.

He alleged that his rivals are working with certain people to engineer false claims against him.

“The Ombudsman office should provide evidence to its claims or else we will meet in court,” he said as quoted by the Star.

Malombe asked supporters to ignore the claims, saying that he upholds and respects the election code of conduct.

On Tuesday the Ombudsman office called for investigation and prosecution of several county governors and state officers who it claims are flouting the Election Act and the code of conduct.

The Ombudsman office said that it has written to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to take action against the said individuals.

Last month, NASA wrote to the DPP calling for the arrest of some state officers who it claimed were openly campaigning for President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election.
