Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama has denied claims that his regime has ignored North Mugirango constituency in development.
Nyagarama on Friday had received letter copied to the County Assembly Speaker Joash Nyomoko and other leaders from a youth leader James Oire complaining of poor states of roads in the constituency.
Speaking on Sunday during a funds drive at Magonga in Nyamira, the county boss said his regime had rehabilitated 140 kilometres of road in the constituency.
He said the letter was not written in good faith and urged the youth leader to do research before complaining.
“My government is concerned with the state of roads and we had rolled out a program that aims at doing at least 300 kilometres," he said.
"It is coincidental that North Mugirango received a massive 140 kilometres in two years time, the largest in all the four constituencies. I think the letter I received from a youth leader here was not written in good faith."
Nyagarama instead blamed the national government for failing to repair major roads and urged the youth leaders to raise concerns with the area MP Charles Geni.
“He (Oire) had some good points and we all want to have good roads for transport. However, majority of the roads that have not been done fall under the docket of the national government and I think area MP should be able to help,” he said.
The county boss urged the national government to devolve the roads docket.
“The youth leader might have been right because many residents think that the counties should do all roads. The government should devolve the function so that the electorates do not judge our records based on the national government’s undoing. I am doing my best as a governor to do feeder roads,” he said.
