The Kilifi County Government under the leadership of Governor Amason Kingi has refuted claims of having misplaced priorities amid accusations of spending Sh50 million to organize a beauty pageant.Through County Secretary Owen Baya, the Kingi-led government denied the claims, and blamed the governor's political rivals for misleading residents. The debate on county spending was sparked last week when Ganze MP Peter Shehe and his Kilifi North counterpart Gideon Mung'aro continued with their series of attacks on the Governor and his administration, accusing him off channeling funds to unimportant projects. However, while speaking at Kibarani Ward, Baya said the county had only spent Sh 5 million for the beauty show, and defended the event saying it generated over Sh100 million through hotel bookings."The event boosted our businesses. This is the type of development that the electorate would like to happen. The politicians are making false statements because they do not have the information about the figures," he said.
