On Tuesday, members of the Kisii County assembly passed a motion to compel supermarkets in the county to give free carries bags to their customers.

However, in a statement Governor Ongwae, on Wednesday said that he was not aware of the motion and he will not rush to sign the motion into law.

"I am not aware of such a motion and I will not rush to sign into law what others might not like. I will properly consult before I take action," he said.

Ongwae urged the MCAs to ensure members of the public and all stakeholders are involved before they pass any motion in the assembly.

The motion was sponsored by Bomorenda ward MCA Ombati who said the supermarkets in town should provide free carries bags to customers because they used to issue free polythene bags before the government banned the use of plastic bags.

Two counties Uasin Gishu and Kisumu have already passed similar motions to compel supermarkets to issue free carrier bags.
