Murang’a Governor Mwangi wa Iria has dissolved the boards of five water supply companies in the county.

Wa Iria cited gross mismanagement of the companies.

The affected companies are Murang’a Water and Sewerage Company,  Muranga South Water and Sewerage Company, Kahuti Water Company, Gatanga Water Company and Gatamathi water Company.

The governor said the move is meant to ensure residents enjoy the benefits of adequate water supply in the County.

The caretaker committee will now conduct public hearings in the County before preparing a report on the problems facing the companies within a month.

The governor said there have been several complaints by members of the public on water services forcing the Wa Iiria to act.

“I made a commitment just before the elections to ensure every resident has access to affordable domestic water and I will ensure this is achieved as soon as possible,” Wa Iria said.

He noted that the caretaker committee has also been tasked with the responsibility of preparing a plan that will ensure that 50 percent of Murang’a residents who are not connected to water are connected.

The new committee, he said, has already been gazetted and will take effect immediately.
