Tana River Governor Dhadho Godhana has distributed relief food to residents in Hola who have been affected by drought.
Mr. Godhana said the current drought being experienced in most parts of the country has forced thousands of residents in the region to stare at hunger and starvation.
Mr. Godhana flagged off three trucks carrying more than 4,000 bags of drought pellets for Tana North and Tana Delta.
Governor Godhana who thanked the European Union for its effort to support the county in mitigating the effects of drought said the relief food will be distributed to the affected families to ensure that the suffering brought about by the current situation is minimized.
Speaking during the ceremony in Hola, Mr. Godhana said the county was facing adverse weather conditions making the drought worse compared to other seasons.
“The distribution of relief food in the county will help hundreds of local people faced with severe drought.”
“We are grateful for this distribution that is to be shared among three sub-counties. This is the first contingent we are receiving from the European Union to curb this situation. It is just the beginning of the response activities to deal with the drought,” he said.
The governor also challenged other stakeholders and well-wishers to assist the government in combating the hunger menace by contributing either money or food to assist the hunger-stricken families.
