Mr Roba said due to devolution, Mandera has improved in terms of development which is benefitting many residents in the county.

The governor said despite rampant security in the region, devolution had spurred growth in Mandera county in the last five years.

He said in the last five years there is improvement in different sectors including Health, Agriculture, water and Infrastructure which he said improved livelihoods in the county.

Speaking over the weekend at a Mandera Hotel during a county dialogue forum on the effects of devolution, Mr Roba blamed insecurity for the slow realization of development in the far-flung parts of the county.

“Mandera has suffered countless Al-Shabaab terror attacks spilling over from neighbouring Somalia. Despite the insecurity challenges in our county, we have achieved our goal in the past five years and we have our eyes set on the next five years,” he said.

The governor further said that 209 terror cases were reported in 2013/2014 and 2014/2015 adding that the county government has put in place measures to ensure residents are well protected.

“As a county government, we are supplementing the security efforts by paying the police reservists and hired vehicles for patrols,” added Mr Roba.
