Tana River governor hopeful Danson Mungatana has promised to end the frequent border conflicts between communities in neighbouring counties if elected governor in the August 8 general election.
The former Garsen MP said security will be at the top of his agenda if he ascends to power.In an interview with People Daily, Mungatana said many lives have been lost, communities displaced and property destroyed as a result of border conflicts, adding that insecurity at the border points has denied the region development. “I am concerned with the insecurity on our border points and my agenda will be to bring the communities together and encourage peaceful co-existence,” said Mungatana as quoted by the daily.He said residents cannot concentrate on their socio-economic activities as they are always in constant fear of being attacked.The governor hopeful urged residents to back his election, arguing that he understands their issues more than anyone else.He said if elected, his leadership will focus on development projects that will directly uplift the living stands of residents.He further urged residents not to listen to propaganda being spread by his opponents.Mungatana is seeking to unseat Governor Hussein Dado who ditched Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper Party for Jubilee.
