Taita Taveta governor hopeful Granton Samboja has promised to revive the county’s economy if elected on August 8.
Addressing supporters in Voi on Wednesday, Samboja said he will transform and reform the county in 100 days if elected.The governor hopeful stated that his focus will be to create employment through establishment of industries.He also pledged to boost trade and business by abolishing taxes and levies charged on small scale businesses.The Wiper party governor hopeful also vowed to woo local and foreign business investors, saying the county has resources to create and grow the economy.Samboja criticized the incumbent, Governor John Mruttu, saying he has been ‘sleeping’ on his job.The governor hopeful claimed that the county is among the poorest despite having natural resources that can grow the economy and create wealth for locals.He claimed that Mruttu’s poor economic policies have denied the county development, and urged residents to support his bid, promising to fight for their interests without discrimination.He also pledged to stamp-out corruption which he claimed is rife in the county.Governor Mruttu is seeking re-election as an independent candidate after losing the ODM ticket to Thomas Mwadeghu in the nomination.Former Central Bank (CBK) Deputy Governor Jacinta Mwatela is also vying for the seat on an Amani National Congress Party ticket. Senator Dan Mwanzo of Jubilee is also eying the seat.
