Garissa Gubernatorial aspirant Retired Major General Bashir Haji has pledged to fight terror and criminal elements if elected as governor in the August 8 polls.

Bashir says that he will put in place proper security mechanisms that will eliminate acts of terrorism and crime that have been reported in the county and the larger North Eastern region if elected.

Addressing supporters in Garissa Town on Thursday, Bashir said that he has the experience on security matters, adding that he will make Garissa a crime free zone.

The retired military officer claimed that Garissa and the larger North eastern region have been turned into terror and criminal grounds.

“I will work on effective policies that will curb terror and criminal threats within Garissa and the larger North Eastern region,” he said as quoted by the Star.

Bashir also promised to end radicalization and brainwashing of young people by terror and criminal sympathizers.

The aspirant urged locals to endorse his candidature,  promising to create jobs and spearhead peace and unity.

The Governor hopeful cautioned locals against being swayed by clan politics saying it is a threat to the regions unity.

Haji added that his campaign is pegged on addressing problems facing locals.

He accused the incumbent government of failing to deliver service to the people despite getting funding from the national government.

Haji, who is Garissa senator’s Yusuf Haji younger brother has not yet announced the party on which he will be contesting on, and promised to unveil his campaign strategy and manifesto in the coming days.

Haji alongside former Permanent Secretary (PS) Ali Bunow Korane are eyeing to unseat Governor Nathif Jama in the August 8 polls.

Jama is seeking re-election on grounds that his administration has achieved the promises he made to the people. He  has been accusing his rivals of  running malicious campaign against his administration.
