Timamy said he will seek re-election on an ANC ticket, as he is confident Lamu residents will back him in the 2017 general election.

He dismissed a section of leaders who have termed his move as political suicide, saying he has the blessings of his electorate.

This comes after Lamu East MP Athman Shariff criticised the governor over the move, and urged residents in the county to vote for Jubilee in next year's polls, in a bid to enjoy the fruits of government.

“With Jubilee all our problems are over and done with. All we need to do is to support them. Its unfortunate that as leaders we seem confused about what to do but just for the record, Jubilee is the way and any other party is a lie,” said Shariff, as quoted by Baraka FM.

The county boss, however, dismissed the MP, saying voters should elect leaders based on their track record and not their political affiliation.

“We don’t focus on political parties, if the leader is fit he can go to any party. In other areas leaders were elected on a Jubilee Party ticket and did not deliver. I have my nomination ticket in my pocket and am waiting for 2017, even if elections are called tomorrow am ready,” said Timamy.

Early this month, the governor ditched Jubilee for ANC, a few months after decamping to the former from UDF.
