Garissa Governor Nathif Jama has pleaded with locals to remain calm and peaceful as the August 8 general election nears.
Speaking during a meet the people campaign tour in Garissa Town on Thursday, the Wiper governor asked residents and Kenyans to be peace ambassadors.
The governor said that they (residents) need to remain peaceful in order to vote on August 8. The Governor also urged residents to shun politicians perpetuating division
“My humble appeal is to residents and Kenyans to remain peaceful and embrace unity as we prepare to vote in the August 8 polls,” he said.
Governor Jama said that peace has to prevail in the country before, during and after the August 8 polls.
He condemned politicians propagating hate speech, saying they are not patriotic. Governor Jama said that politicians whether in government or opposition have a responsibility of uniting the country.
Jama asked the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to exercise its muscles and take action against hate mongers and inciters.
