Garissa County Governor Nathif Jama has sued EACC and the Nation Media Group for defamation.
This is after a story was published alleging the High Court had frozen Jama's bank accounts over corruption where Sh5 billion county money was transferred to his personal account irregularly.
However, a letter from EACC CEO Halakhe Waqo to the governor surfaced online on Wednesday where the EACC chief distanced the commission from the reports.
Waqo said the court had neither frozen the governor’s account nor had it given any reports pertaining to the matter to any media house.According to Jama, he did not want to discuss the matter in detail because the letter was of a personal nature.
"My lawyers have already tabled the issue in court and therefore I do not wish to prejudice the issue before the court fully hears and determines the issue,” he said.
A source who requested anonymity told the Star that Jama is determined to pursue the matter to the end
“I can assure you the governor will not let the matter go just like that, especially knowing all these were false allegations only meant to tarnish his name and make him look like a corrupt person,” the source said.
