Garissa Governor Nathif Jama has called upon the national government to pull up its socks in the fight against drought in different parts of the county.

Addressing residents while assessing Ugatuzi na Kazi programme, Jama said that his government has already embarked on the mission to end drought in the region.

“As a county we have discussed ways if mitigating drought. Already we have started water trucking. We are also planning to send out food in different parts of the county,” he said as quoted by Star.

The governor, however, said that the efforts of the county government alone will not eradicate the problem adding that the national government should intervene to make his dream a reality.

“But even as we do this, at this stage the national government, which has the biggest share of the money, should chip and be seen on the ground. It is not something that only a county can do,” he added.

Residents of this part of the nation have been affected immensely by the biting drought.

Their livestock have also suffered because of lack of pasture and food. Jama has assured his people that he will do everything within his means to solve the problem as he seeks re-election during the August polls.
