In a statement to newsrooms on Friday, the governor condemned extrajudicial killing in the country, and urged the government to take action against the culprits.

‟The trend has only gotten worse under Jubilee. Kenyans will note that in these four years of President Kenyatta's administration, we have witnessed the killing of Kabete MP George Muthai, the unexplained assassination of Jacob Juma, the brutal torture and murder of lawyer Willie Kimani, his client and his driver,” read the statement in part.

The governor also cited a report released by Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) on the disappearance and execution of prominent religious leaders in Mombasa.

‟In Mombasa alone, according to a joint Open Society and Muslim for human right report released mid this year, 30 people arrested by police for interrogation were never freed. A report by KNCHR showed that 81 people disappear without a trace while in police custody and over 24 sheikhs have been executed,” he said.

He urged the Inspector General of Police to take responsibility for the reckless actions of his officers in a bid to avert such cases in the future.
