Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has condemned his arrest alongside three MPs and several Members of County Assembly (MCAs).
Speaking Friday night shortly after being released, the governor said he was detained at the Coast Police Headquarters alongside Rashid Bedzimba (Kisauni), Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir (Mvita), and Suleiman Dori (Msambweni) over alleged obstruction of arrest charges.
The governor is reported to have been arrested after storming the Urban Police Station to demand the release of his ally.
“We firmly stood by our rights and questioned the illegal and frivolous charges under which we were placed under arrest,” said Joho.
They were later released by the PCIO who apologised for the misunderstanding, saying the arresting officer (identified as Inspector Rop) acted independently as he had not received any arrest orders.
“We will not relent in the fight for justice of our people nor deviate from the cause,” added Joho.
