Parents have been cautioned against taking their children to private tutors for Madrasa classes as the children risk getting radicalised.
Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho said there were fake tutors who take advantage of the classes to radicalise the children.
The governor warned parents to be on the lookout and closely monitor their children to avoid losing them to radicalist teachers.
“The parents should be careful when enrolling their children into these private Madrasa classes as some tutors can radicalise them," he said.
Mr Joho said militants have been luring Kenyan youth to join the group because the youth fall into their traps easily.
The governor however, said children who have gone through Islamic religious classes from an early age gain the true teachings of Islam and it is impossible to radicalise them.
Speaking during the training of early childhood development activities in Mombasa on Wednesday, Mr Joho said most parents in the county were allowing private teachers who have little knowledge of Koran to teach their children.
“Youth are the most vulnerable group and easily embrace radicalism. As parents, we must be alert and note any slight changes in our youth," Joho said.
“Children who have not taken Islamic religious classes do not understand the Koran and they easily become susceptible to indoctrination,” said Joho.
