Outspoken Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho's bid to vie for the presidency in 2022 has been thrown to disarray if the NASA deal is anything to go by.
Details of the Opposition alliance power agreement indicate that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party will not be eligible to field a Presidential candidate in the 2022 general elections.
Joho is the party's Deputy leader alongside Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya.
Speaking on Sunday during a press briefing, Wiper Party Secretary General and Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar revealed that ODM will not be gunning for the presidency in 2022, but would instead be expected to back other parties within the NASA outfit.
“If it is not Kalonzo at the moment, I believe it will be him in 2022. Neither Raila nor ODM will produce a presidential candidate in 2022, that is the agreement,” Omar noted.
The NASA deal saw ODM Party leader Raila Odinga named the coalition's presidential candidate during the forthcoming general elections.
He will be deputized by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
