Mombasa Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works Department received a delegation from GoSwift Queue Management Service - Estonia on Monday.
The visit was prompted after the recent official visit by Governor Ali Hassan Joho to Estonia accompanied by several MCAs.
On March 2, 2018, Joho left for Estonia for a two-day official visit following an official invitation from the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"I am delighted and honored to begin a 2 day official visit which seeks to further strengthen the existing warm and cordial relations between the people of Estonia and the people of Mombasa," he said.
The visit sought to fortify the relationship to tangible cooperation through technology and technical skills exchange to further improve the County's business processes, improve revenue collection systems and mainstream efficiency and accountability through advanced automation.
On Monday during a meeting with the GoSwift Queue Management Service team, Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works CeC Taufiq Balala expressed optimism in working with them, saying the service encurtains reduced congestion of queued trucks in busy ports and city centres.
It also ensures improved traffic safety in city centres and around ports; Municipality – improves the image of the city with more security, less waste and pollution; Possible re-use of high value land in the city Centre; Port authorities – better planning and info about when trucks are arriving and departing; Transport companies – more efficient use of trucks and drivers, less waiting time over traffic jams; Ferry companies – trucks can use off-peak times and tourists peak times and Drivers – better planning, manage work and rest time better.
"The GoSwift border service removes long lines at county borders and main access roads leading to and around Mombasa County, by queuing vehicles electronically and thereby saving money and reducing the border crossing time to the Island and also within the Port City of Mombasa," he said.
The service reduces traffic congestion by keeping vehicles away from the Port or City Centre in designated waiting areas and then calling them at the right time.
"The meeting was very fruitful and many items were discussed on the way forward for it's implementation to counter the present traffic congestion in and around Mombasa County," disclosed the department in a communication on Tuesday.
