In the spirit of the example set by Odinga, Joho encouraged every Kenyan citizen to pursue true and genuine national unity following the unity deal signed between Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta, who was his closest political nemesis.

Joho however said any national conversation on unity must ensure equity to all Kenyan community.

"However, it is my humble belief, that any national conversation on unity must begin with equity, fairness and justice. I wish to urge all the key players in this process to approach this honestly. This process is not for sale. It cannot be bought nor can it be sold to the highest individual bidder. Peace and unity has to be patiently earned," said the governor.

Joho who was a strong critic of Uhuru's government, joined hands with him after the March 9, handshake between Odinga and the president.

The ODM governor during commissioning of the Dongo Kundu bypass last week, pledged to work with the president, saying he will be personally holding talks with Kenyatta in case any issues that are likely to affect the people of Mombasa.
