Residents of Isiolo County residents on Sunday gathered to pray for rains as the drought continues to bite.
Isiolo governor Mohamed Kuti joined hundreds of the Muslim faithful who converged at Isiolo stadium for the prayers.
The prayers were presided over by local council of Imams and Muslim leaders.
Isiolo county has been listed among the worst drought hit regions in the country.
Inter-faith based organization chairman Ahmed Set said they have decided to turn to special prayers since the condition seems to be worsening day by day.
"When there are such harsh disasters, we conduct special prayers to seek interventions for rain from God", Set said. The prolonged drought has also resulted to the deaths of animals across the region, forcing thousands of herders and livestock to migrate to other counties in search of water and pasture.
