Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has been criticised for closing Madaraka Primary School, Thika yesterday.
Addressing journalists in Thika on Tuesday, Gatundu North MP Kigo Njenga said that the school has been a Catholic Church property since 1907.
Kigo criticised the manner in which Governor Kabogo stormed into the school and allegedly manhandled the school administrators led by Sister Rosemary Ngumu.
"He must apologise to the people of Kiambu and more so the Sisters who run that school. It was disrespectful of him to storm into the school the way he did. Everybody has a right to property," Kigo said.
The MP said that since time immemorial the school has been known to belong to the Catholic Church.
"The church was running the school together with St Francis Girls, Mang'u High School before the two were taken over by the government but Madaraka remained under the church," he added.
Kigo also noted that the county government has no mandate over primary school education saying that Kabogo had no business in closing the school.
