The county now joins the league of counties that have signed the agreement pack despite opposition from some governors on the ground that they were not consulted when the national government was drafting the agreement.

The agreement was signed by Kiambu County governor William Kabogo and the Cabinet Health Secretary James Macharia.

Under the agreement pack the national government would partner with county governments in provision of art-of-state-cancer equipments.

The mega health project aims at easing congestion of treatment of cancer at the only cancer hospital -Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).

Speaking during the signing on Friday in Kiambu town, Macharia said that patients had been diverted to KNH but with decentralization of health sector, they will now be able to access affordable cancer treatment at county levels.

Kabogo hailed the national government's medical plan saying that it was a reprieve to poor patients.

“Families with cancer patients have been grappling to access treatment of cancer in vain due to high charges but with affordability of the service at county levels their suffering will be no more,” said Kabogo.

Ironically the signing comes a few days after the collapse of the only radiotherapy machine at KNH putting the lives of thousands of cancer patients at risk.
