Governor William Kabogo and the county government officials will lead the Thika Main and Women Prison in celebration of a New Year in the Prison on January 1, 2016, nominated MCA Florence Ngeru has confirmed.
Speaking after finalizing the preparations of the Party, Madam Florence said that they expect the event to be graced by more than 30 prominent persons among them government officials and business persons.
She added that they will engage the prisoners and remands into entertainment and other sorts of fun to ensure they commence the New Year in a positive note and feel appreciated.
According to the Thika Main Prison superintendent Inspector Samuel Kunzu, they have sorted out the prisoners and remands with little bonds so as to make it easier for the governor and other leaders to clear the bills for them.
Kunzu said that they are targeting more than 50 prisoners to leave the prison tomorrow so as to decongest the facility which has been congested by the increasing number of remands due to cases delay and accumulation in court.
He added that they will ensure the opportunity offered to him to host the governor is well utilized for the good of his department and called upon any leader who can help in clearing the bonds to do so.
“The prison will never be empty even if they release everyone tomorrow the next day it might be full again. We request anyone who can help us decongest the facility to join us tomorrow in the celebrations and help us move ahead,” he said.
However, Kunzu added that they are not releasing anyone from the prison but those that have little bonds and have transformed from their bad ways.
