Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has asked President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA leader Raila Odinga to expedite on the unity and reconciliation process.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the Fifth Devolution Conference in Kakamega County on Wednesday, Kibwana said the delay in rolling out unity process is causing suspicion among Kenyans.
He said Uhuru and Raila need to move fast and implement their pledges to unite and reconcile Kenyans.
Kibwana said some Kenyans have started doubting the unity pledge between the two top leaders.
“Our request is to President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM party leader Raila Odinga to quickly roll out the unity process,” Kibwana said.
He said the country is likely to slip back into native ethnicity if the two leaders fail to fulfill their pledges.
Kibwana said the ongoing 2022 succession debates are likely to swallow the push for national unity and reconciliation.
“We are already witnessing the 2022 succession politics, campaigns and debates a situation that is likely to affect the unity process,” Kibwana added.
Kibwana at the same time castigated politicians rebuking Raila Odinga’s handshakes.
He said Raila is a statesman hence his handshakes mean well for the country.
President Kenyatta met with Raila on March 9 and agreed to unite the country.
However, their delays in initiating the process is raising questions among politicians across the divide.
A section of politicians allied to Raila have been quoted asking him to denounce the handshake after the second deportation of Canadian based lawyer Miguna Miguna last month.
