Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi received a major boost on Wednesday after religious leaders in the county vowed to back his bid.
The leaders pledged to rally the electorate behind Kingi, who is defending his seat on an ODM party ticket.Speaking at Mida in Mastangoni and Gede, the religious leaders said Kingi deserves another term in office.Led by Bishop Lewa, Christian religious leaders from various denominations said Kingi has achieved a lot during his term as governor, adding that he needs more time to complete the projects he has initiated.“We have seen for ourselves for the past four years you have been in power what you have done for the people of Kilifi. You deserve a pat on the back for the good work,” said Lewa, as quoted by Baraka FM.The leaders, however, asked the Governor not to sideline the church during his second term in office. On his part, Kingi promised to support different religious groups if he retains the seat, and urged them to form associations to enable him spearhead their interests with ease. The endorsement comes amidst complainants from the Muslim community in the county over discrimination in the issuance of Identity Cards.
