The County Government of Kilifi values education and gives it the priority it deserves, Governor Jeffah Kingi has said.
The governor revealed that his administration has invested in the education sector such as the Kilifi County Scholarship Fund for secondary and university students, building and equipping modern ECD centres in every ward, allocating funds for the recruitment of ECD Caregivers to facilitate free pre-primary education, providing free learning material to ECD Pupils and constructing vocational centers countywide.
He said no parent or community should deny a child the right to education, even as the Ministry of Education through Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed pledges to revamp the sector.
"The National Government must also invest in the education sector and solve thorny issues like extreme teacher-student ratio, poor infrastructure in primary and secondary schools among others," he said, adding that this would ensure every child in Kilifi has a platform to access quality education and guarantee the County, a pool of skilled labour that will positively contribute to nation building.
Kingi was speaking when he presided over the inaugural Kilifi North Constituency Education Day hosted by area MP Owen Yaa Baya at Kilifi Township Secondary School on Friday.
