Nakuru Youth Advisor to the governor Kimani wa Kimani has welcomed Pope Francis' message asking the government to mind the youth and the poor.

Kimani, who was among the invited guests at the State House Dinner on Wednesday in honor of the Pope, termed the message as timely.

He was speaking to the press in a Nakuru hotel on Thursday where he said the two groups were the most vulnerable during any elections.

“Leaders have manipulated them every time during the elections. I hope that the government especially the county ones, can be able to empower them so that they will not have the over dependency syndrome during elections,” he added.

Mr Kimani also hailed the Pope's appeal for genuine reconciliation, peace and healing.

“This is the only way we can be able to forge ahead as a country and it is very important that we take heed of what the religious Head had to advice us,” he added.

In his address, Pope Francis had termed Kenya as a “young and vibrant nation."

“Experience shows that violence and terrorism fuel mistrust among the people. The enemies of peace must be curbed by all,” said the Pontiff.

Mr Kimani challenged all the leaders who were present there, who included the county heads, to pay keen attention to the message terming it as “revolutionary.”

“They should be the first to spearhead the peace process in the country,” he added.
